There was submission, but no cringing or servility in his manner.

His blue eyes looked fearlessly before him.

His face was not paler than its wont.

He waited for Kaid to speak.
"Peace be to thee," Kaid murmured mechanically.
"And to thee, peace, O Prince," answered Nahoum.

"May the feet of Time linger by thee, and Death pass thy house forgetful." There was silence for a moment, and then Kaid spoke again.
