Squadron in company.
Saw a strange ship to the southward, who hoisted an Union Jack at the main topmast head and a red flag at the fore.

The Phoenix being ahead made the private signal, but the stranger not answering she made the signal for an enemy.

We immediately made the general signal to chase.

At 10 the Phoenix and Latona fired a few shots at her, upon which she hoisted French colours, discharged her guns, and struck.

She proved to be La Blonde of 28 guns and 190 men.
