After undergoing this discipline about a quarter of an hour, he was glad to be released from the women.

The operation, however gave him immediate relief; so that he was encouraged to submit to another rubbing down before he went to bed; the consequence of which was, that he was tolerably easy all the succeeding night.

His female physicians repeated their prescription the next morning, and again in the evening; after which his pains were entirely removed, and the cure was perfected.

This operation, which is called _romee_, is universally practised among these islanders; being sometimes, performed by the men, but more generally by the women.
