Afterwards I frightened you, and realised that I continued to be very unfortunate in following you, even in the visits you made to the poor people.

Already I ceased to be master of my own actions, and did things that astonished me beyond measure, and which, under usual circumstances, I would not have dared attempt.

For instance, when I presented myself here with the order for a mitre, I was pushed forward by an involuntary force, as, personally, I dared not do it, knowing that I might make you angry.

But at present I cannot regain my old self, I can only obey my impulses.

I know that you do not like me, and yet, as you see, in spite of it all I have come back to you, that I may hear you tell me so.
