Men and horses moved along very slowly, but did not give in.

Towards noon a hot wind began to blow.

Onwards still we pressed, and crossed the large creek coming into the Alberga about two miles from the water.

I told the party we were now close, and showed them the low table-land just ahead.

Before we reached it we found a clay-hole with water, and gave the horses a good drink, after which we moved on a mile and camped at Mr.Gosse's depot Number 20, where we got plenty of water by digging in the sandy bed of the river.
