We therefore pushed on, although our horses were very tired, and reached the well, where there was a substantial stone hut; met the shepherd, whose name was Robinson.

He said he knew who we were, having heard about three months ago that we might be expected this way.

He was as kind and obliging as it was possible to be in his circumstances.

Had a difficulty in drawing water for the horses, the well being nearly 200 feet deep, and there was not a bite for the poor creatures to eat, except a few miles off.

As it was now an hour after dark, I turned them out, and left them to do the best they could.
