Left Colona, accompanied by Police-trooper Richards and party.

Mr.Maiden also accompanied us a few miles, when he returned, bearing with him my sincere thanks for his kindness to myself and party.

After travelling eleven miles, we reached the hospitable residence of Messrs.

Rested at Pintumbra, as there was good feed for our tired and hungry horses.

Police-trooper Richards and party also remained with us.
AT FOWLERS BAY.
27th.
Travelled towards Fowler's Bay, and at ten miles reached Yallata, the residence of Mr.Armstrong, where we had dinner, and afterwards reached Fowler's Bay and put up at the Police-station.
28th to 31st.
Remained at Fowler's Bay, recruiting ourselves and horses, and wrote the following letters to the Honourable the Colonial Secretary, Western Australia, and to his Excellency Sir James Fergusson, Governor of South Australia:-- Fowler's Bay, 29th July, 1870.
SIR, I have the honour to report, for the information of his Excellency the Governor, the safe arrival here of the exploring expedition under my command, and beg to give you a brief outline of our proceedings since the departure of the schooner Adur from Port Eucla.
On the 8th of July, started on a flying trip north from Eucla, with fourteen days' provisions, but was unable to penetrate more than thirty miles (which was over clear open plains of grass, etc., scarcely a tree visible), on account of the scarcity of water, not meeting with a drop of water on the whole journey.
