As to the sheep evil, that can hardly become greater than it is at the present day.

In short, notwithstanding the wide-spread deterioration and destruction of every kind already effected, California, with her incomparable climate and flora, is still, as far as I know, the best of all the bee-lands of the world.
[1] Fifteen hives of Italian bees were introduced into Los Angeles County in 1855, and in 1876 they had increased to 500.

The marked superiority claimed for them over the common species is now attracting considerable attention..
