Somehow he felt guilty, he could not tell why.
"Yes, here we are," answered Nellie.
"And what a crowd!" added Grace.

Dora said not a word.

She had stopped looking at Minnie and her eyes were directed to nothing at all on the football field.
"Well, Dora, are you going to wish me success ?" asked Dick, bound to say something.
"Oh, I guess all your lady friends will wish you that," was the answer in a voice that did not seem like Dora's at all.
"Why, what's the matter ?" he asked in a low voice meant only for her ears.
"Nothing." "But there is, Dora." "You had better go down to the field now.

I see the other players are getting ready." "But if you are angry at me--" "Oh, I am not angry, so please leave me alone!" And now Dora turned still further away, while something like tears began to spring into her eyes.
Dick drew back, for her tone of voice nettled him.

He felt he had done nothing wrong.
