Sometimes they overlapped each other, and rose Uke an immense staircase.

Fifty yards or so from the land was a tiny island entirely overgrown with stunted bushes.

The boat was pushed up to it and a landing-place sought, but the shrubs were too thick, and it was decided to picnic among the rocks on the land.

Then Marion in the bow made a discovery.

A causeway about a foot under water led from the island to the shore.
