Mrs.Barclay sat quietly at the table with her sewing in hand.
"Good-day, widow," said the squire patronizingly.
He was rather surprised at her quiet, unruffled, demeanor.

He expected to find her tearful and sad.
"Good-day, Squire Davenport," she said quietly.
