"I am very glad you have come." Don Teodoro produced a pair of silver spectacles as he reseated himself, and proceeded to settle them very carefully on his enormous nose.

Then he turned to Bosio, and looked at him.
"Have you been ill ?" he asked, after a careful scrutiny of the pallid, nervous face.
"No." Bosio looked out of the window, avoiding the other's gaze.
