Marmaduke shook hands good-naturedly, and retired somewhat abashed, thrumming his banjo.
Just then a faint sound of clapping was followed by the return of the quartet party, upon which Miss Lind rose and moved hesitatingly toward the platform.
The tall man offered his hand. "Nonsense, Sholto," said she, laughing.
