By this they bound themselves to support Prussia if she was attacked.

Prussia guaranteed to them their territory; in case of war they would put their army under the command of the King of Prussia.

He was now sure, therefore, of an alliance of all Germany against France.

He no longer required French assistance.

The unity of Germany, when it was made, would be achieved by the unaided forces of the united German States.
