His one thought was of Sisily.

He had not seen her clearly in the dark street.

She appeared to him now unchanged, her dear face as he had last seen it, her features luminous with tender feeling, her dark eyes dwelling gravely on him, just as she used to look.

As she stood there, the realization of his haunting dreams, he had to fight down an impulse to take her in his arms.

But it was not the moment for that.
