He retired from the bedside, and sat by the fire absorbed in grief.

The physicians, Dr.Dick and Dr.Brown, again came in (between five and six o'clock), and when they came to his bedside, Dr.Craik asked him if he could sit up in the bed.
He held out his hand to me and was raised up, when he said to the Physicians: 'I feel myself going.

I thank you for your attention--you had better not take any more trouble about me; but let me go off quietly; I cannot last long,' They found out that all which had been done was of no effect.

He lay down again, and all retired except Dr.
Craik.

He continued in the same position, uneasy and restless, but without complaining; frequently asking what hour it was.
