"I don't believe the Count will agree to that," she said, with a reflective twinkle in her dark eyes.

"He has not found me especially angelic.

If you imagine that I cannot scratch back, my dear friend, you are very much mistaken.

I have had the pleasure of giving him more than one bad half hour.
