But they were enthusiastic, and the Catholic priests did not interfere.

While the bell was tolling, intelligence was received that a troop of dragoons was approaching.

The people immediately erected a barricade at the farthest extremity of the principal street.

It was constructed of empty carts and baulks of timber.
