On the same evening the mob paid its respects to Rev.Dr.Cox, by breaking windows both at his house and at his church.

The negro quarters in the neighborhood of Five Points, and their houses in other parts of the city, were raided on the night of the 11th, and much damage done by the lawless hordes which for nearly a week wreaked their wrath upon the property of the negroes and their anti-slavery friends.
After this brave beginning, the wild-cat-like spirit continued, these ferocious demonstrations in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Connecticut, Maine, and New Hampshire.

The slavery agitation had increased apace.

It had broken out in Congress on the presentation of anti-slavery petitions.

The fire thus kindled spread through the country.
