It was a wrong policy thus to deal with the results of a stroke of good fortune not likely to be repeated.
This year was, however, to be a lucky year unto the end.

A fourth expedition under Adrian Jansz Pater which left on August 15 for the Caribbean sea, sailed up the Orinoco and destroyed the town of San Thome de Guiana, the chief Spanish settlement in those parts.
