I sprang from my chair just as the handle of the door was turned and a woman stepped quietly in.

She was wrapped from head to foot in a long cloak, and she was thickly veiled.

But I knew her at once.

It was Mrs.Smith-Lessing.
My first impulse was one of anger.

It seemed to me that she was taking advantage of the sympathy which Ray's brutality during our last interview had forced from me.
