He alone carried on the investigation; Hoshkanyi Tihua had mingled with the rest again, and stood there silent and speechless over the terrible news.

A flutter went through the group,--a movement of surprise and of terror. Many persons had collected, and the steps of more were heard coming up. In the valley the wind sighed.
