"I see Tododaho with the wise snakes in his hair," said Tayoga in an awed whisper, "and he looks directly down at me.

Now, I know that some mighty event is going to happen, and that the dawn will be heavy with the fate of men." The sullen boom of a cannon came from a point far down the river, and then the sullen boom of another replying.

Quebec, on its rock, lay dark and silent.
