In Alsace, Turenne displayed, against a much superior enemy, all that military skill which had long rendered him the most renowned captain of his age and nation.

By a sudden and forced march, he attacked and beat at Sintzheim the duke of Lorraine and Caprara, general of the imperialists.

Seventy thousand Germans poured into Alsace, and took up their quarters in that province.

Turenne, who had retired into Lorraine, returned unexpectedly upon them.

He attacked and defeated a body of the enemy at Mulhausen.
