Strolling up there, he saw Bruno lying asleep between two of the guns, of which there were five.
"It seems all right," he said to himself, "and as he cannot walk off with them, I don't see what his plan can be--that is, if he has a plan.

However, there is no harm in keeping watch.

The guns are against the skyline and, lying down fifty yards away, we shall be able to see if he does anything with them.

Of course he might spike them, but I don't suppose that he would risk that, for the spikes might be noticed the first thing in the morning.

I don't think that it would do for him to try that.
