On this subject, Mr. De Jonge, who is connected by affinity with the descendants of the Dutch Admiral Evertsen, has kindly communicated to me some interesting information derived from family papers.
In a letter to Bentinck, dated Sept.
6/16 1688, William insists strongly on the importance of avoiding an action, and begs Bentinck to represent this to Herbert.
