Indeed, nobody who had ever seen him was likely to forget him.

For his grotesque features and his hideous squint were far beyond the reach of caricature.

His parts, which were quick and vigorous, had enabled him early to master the science of chicane.

Gambling and betting were his amusements; and out of these amusements he contrived to extract much business in the way of his profession.
